Request for short - 'The Sound of Bells' (circa early 1950s) |
This is a Christmas-themed training film for employees of B.F. Goodrich that was made by the Calvin Company of Kansas City ('Your Name Here,' 'Magic Bond,' 'Bright Young Newcomer') and directed by Robert Altman of 'M*A*S*H' and 'Gosford Park' fame. I've never seen 'Sound of Bells', but seeing as how another one of Altman's Calvin films, 'The Magic Bond,' is available for viewing on the archive, I was wondering if you guys have access to the 'Bells' film and could put it up on the internet for all to see. By the way, there's also an Altman/Calvin production called 'The Perfect Crime' that I think would be interesting. There's gotta be some place to see these films. I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Re: Request for short - 'The Sound of Bells' (circa early 1950s) |
We had the original A&B film elements and perhaps soundtrack on this, but nothing that could easily be transferred or seen. As you may know, A&B rolls each contain part of the film, but on separate strands. Putting all this back together is expensive. The elements are now in deep storage at the Library of Congress and probably won't surface for a year or so. Sorry!

Re: Request for short - 'The Sound of Bells' (circa early 1950s) |
There was a guy named Neal Keehn who was a director/vice-president for Calvin in the '50s and has his personal papers housed at the American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming, as well as "67 16mm educational and documentary films" which I assume would be Calvin productions. Do you think it's actually worth looking at these?
